Young Leaders Of Lemba Community Arrive In Israel For Jewish Studies
George Zvakavapano and Sheron Nzou Wuriga, both young leaders of Zimbabwe’s Lemba Jewish community, arrived in Israel on October 19 for intensive Jewish studies. Kulanu has contributed their airfare, thanks to support from donors Jack and Diane Zeller, while Ohr Torah Stone has generously offered to pay both George and Sheron’s expenses in Israel.
George, who hails from the Harare Lemba Synagogue (HLS), where he leads agricultural and development projects in villages that are associated with the HLS, will study at the Nidchei Yisrael program at Ohr Torah Stone. Sheron, who comes from Mapakomhere, Zimbabwe and is a member of the Great Zimbabwe Synagogue, will learn at Midreshet B’erot Bat Ayin, a women’s Orthodox seminary located south of Jerusalem. On their 4:20 am arrival at Ben Gurion airport, George and Sheron were warmly welcomed by Jack and Diane!
