Travels in Western Africa and Beyond
Rabbanit Boni Sussman in Gabon, July 2014.
|
Living true to their reputations, Rabbis Boni and Gerry Sussman continue to meet Jewish communities with open arms. Most recently, this summer they visited “new” communities in Gabon and Ivory Coast, and made a stop in Cameroon to catch up with the members of the Beth Yeshourun community that Kulanu has been working with for several years now.
Unfortunately the Sussmans missed Serge Etele, leader of the Cameroon Jewish community, but for a happy reason – Serge spent three months studying with Rabbi Shlomo Riskin’s community in Efrat, Israel this summer.
These travel experiences and more will be covered in an upcoming issue of our magazine, so be sure to look for the next KulanuNews! In the meantime, check out this video recorded by the Sussmans during their trip: click here or on the video below to watch Beth Yeshourun community members in Cameroon dance and sing “Hallelujah” (Psalm 150) to their original melody!
(Are you up-to-date on Serge’s studies in Israel or the Torah that was donated to the Beth Yeshourun congregation? If you can’t wait for the next issue of Kulanu’s magazine, visit the Kulanu Blog and browse the Kulanu photo albums on Phanfare for these stories and more!)
