Kulanu Communities in the News!
March 27, 2015
Kulanu communities have recently received some great publicity. Please enjoy reading these articles and checking out these films, and then share these links with your friends or anyone you think might be interested in the diversity of the global Jewish community. Thanks so much!
And, a Canadian film crew is currently making a documentary about the Jews of Ghana — learn more and watch the trailer here: www.fourcornersthefilm.com
Italy / Anousim: In case you missed the CUNY-TV showing of “The Hidden Jews of Calabria”, you can now purchase it on DVD from Rabbi Barbara Aiello’s website, rabbibarbara.com. This documentary follows Rabbi Barbara, a Kulanu partner who works with Anousim and other Jewish communities in Italy, on a trip to her ancestral village in southern Italy, and talk to the people of Calabria about the Jewish roots of the town. Watch the 14-minute preview on YouTube:
Kenya: The emerging Jewish community in the rural highlands of Kenya – also growing in popularity on Facebook (see the Kasuku-Ol kalou page here) – gains attention in this article on the Times of Israel website.
Uganda: In November, Times of Israel reporter Melanie Lidman published two stories about the Abayudaya community – one about her impressions of their Conservative prayer services, and the other about the Mirembe Kawomera (Delicious Peace) interfaith coffee coop, which produces organic, fair-trade, kosher (and delicious!) coffee.
Zimbabwe: Kulanu volunteer Sara Eisen talks to NJ Jewish News reporter Robert Wiener about her experiences with the Lemba community in Harare. (By the way, have you seen Sara’s blog about her three months living in Zimbabwe? It has some great photos and videos, too!)
