Remy Ilona Discusses Igbo History
“My story about the Igbo will sound incredible, ” stated Remy Ilona, author, Ph.D. candidate, and Kulanu speaker, who gave at talk a Temple Beth El in Riverside, California. He shared the fascinating history of the Igbo people and their present day life.
He explained that until about one century ago, the Igbo people existed as an independent entity in West Africa. They lost their independence to the British after a 33 year war and the British annexed their land and added it to their empire.
“That part of their defunct empire is the country called Nigeria presently. We are among the 3 largest ethnic groups in this country. This year 2019, many Igbo persons observed Yom Kippur and Sukkot as you in the American Jewish community did,” he explained.
