Announcing the Kulanu Community Twinning Initiative

We are excited to announce a new opportunity to get involved with Kulanu in 2018! The Kulanu Community Twinning Initiative will allow synagogues to pair with one of our partner communities.

We work with isolated, emerging, and returning Jewish communities around the globe, from Peru to Poland, from Nigeria to Nicaragua, from India to Indonesia, and many more. Over 50 emerging Jewish communities have joined our work in connecting global Jewry, and we want to help to forge special connections between Western synagogues and these diverse, committed Jews in far away places.

This effort will help us to bring Jewish education and other resources consistently and efficiently to your twinned partner community. In exchange, you will have the opportunity to learn about Jewish diversity, explore unique Jewish practices, form links with individuals, and actively support your partner community. You will receive regular updates directly from their community to yours.

The twinning community would be expected to fundraise financially, in kind, or both, in order to make sure their partner community benefits in important ways. For example, you might arrange for sets of tefillin or mezuzot to be sent to a community that doesn’t have enough, or fundraise towards a community’s first Torah scroll or an educational project like a school computer lab. You will be able to work directly with your partner community to decide what projects to undertake, and will work together on making them happen – with our guidance when needed, of course.

We are initially looking for up to five pilot communities to join this initiative.

If you are interested in joining this initiative, please fill out this short form. We would love to be your community’s matchmaker and pair you with a Kulanu community!
