2022 Kulanu Impact Stories – Guatemala

Dear Friends,

As 2022 comes to a close, we are reflecting on Kulanu’s support for global Jewish communities over the past year, and showing how your donations transform Jewish lives. Today, we want to share developments from Guatemala’s young, Reform-affiliated Adat Israel community.

Adat Israel is soon to gain their first home-grown rabbi in Rebeca Orantes. Still in her mid-20s, she has already served a successful term as President of the community, attended BCI (a trip sponsored by Kulanu,) participated in a major URJ leadership seminar, and is midway through her rabbinical studies at HUC (also supported by Kulanu.)

Rebeca says:

“Kulanu has been a key part in Adat Israel’s Jewish education. The lack of a constant Rabbinic presence here has been unnoticeable thanks to visits of rabbis and student Rabbis sponsored by Kulanu. We owe part of our community’s formation and ongoing success to Kulanu’s generosity.”

Kulanu has assisted with a number of projects in Guatemala, many of them in collaboration with Adat Israel, and others in emerging orthodox and Crypto-Jewish communities.

Kulanu has helped to provide a sefer Torah, ritual objects, Humashim, Hebrew language learning materials, and other Jewish texts. Kulanu has also arranged for visitors, including rabbis and rabbinical students, to visit, teach, and lead services, and offered online courses to the community. Kulanu further assisted with building the synagogue, providing food relief during COVID-19, sending matzah for Pesah, supporting a film project, and aiding with conversions.

Your donations help Kulanu’s partner communities to flourish – just like Adat Israel.  Our partner communities truly enrich the Jewish world.

Please donate online now to secure Kulanu’s future! Your contributions alone allow us to continue our mission of supporting isolated, emerging, and returning Jewish communities around the globe.

With warm regards from “all of us” at Kulanu.

PS – If you have already given, thank you! We appreciate your generosity.
