June 2024 Update
Kulanu now be will be accepting grants submission three times per year – with the next review January 2025.
We believe this revised schedule will provide applicants with more predictability and transparency regarding our grant review process. It will also ensure that all proposals receive the thorough consideration they deserve.
Please note that while we support many valuable initiatives, not all projects will receive funding. After careful consideration, we are not presently providing funding for agricultural or development projects. Our current priorities align closely with supporting Jewish development and infrastructure needs.
We kindly request that you refrain from unsolicited contact via email or WhatsApp, as we receive a high volume of inquiries. We reach out if we have any questions.
We value your commitment to community projects.
Kulanu Grants
Kulanu has small amounts of grant money available for projects to benefit our partner communities. Projects must carry out Kulanu’s mission to support isolated, emerging, and returning Jewish communities around the globe. We do not give grants to individuals for personal needs.
How much money is available?
Every year Kulanu budgets for grants to be awarded to our partner communities for other special purposes. Kulanu works with many partner communities, so while we would love to support all requests, we can’t fully fund all of the requests. Past grants range from $50 – $10,000.
We also have a separate fund for help with technology – computers, smartphones, and internet services. Sarapage Podolsky is the director of our technology program. If you want to ask for help with technology, please go to https://kulanu.org/contact and say your message is for Sarapage.
How can you apply for a grant from Kulanu?
If you want to ask for money from Kulanu, please fill out this form. If you need help preparing this form or budget, ask your Kulanu regional coordinator or write to us at https://kulanu.org/contact.
Who will recommend whether to approve my application?
A Kulanu Grants Review Committee will review these forms using this rubric and recommend who should receive money. We plan to meet once every two or three months to review applications. We are sorry that we won’t have enough money to say yes to all important requests.
When will we get the money if we are approved?
We hope to send out grants to communities several times per year.
What are my responsibilities if I get a grant?
You need to let other people in your community know how much money Kulanu has sent, what it is for, and how it has been spent. You can avoid mistrust if you share information about your grant.
You must send three kinds of reports to Kulanu:
- A short description of the project telling what you accomplished and what challenges you faced. Optional: Please include stories about the project.
- Receipts or a financial report, preferably one prepared using a spreadsheet. If you need help preparing a financial report, we will find volunteers to help you.
- Share photos, preferably using a link that will be sent to you on kulanu.smugmug.com. Having excellent photos really helps Kulanu raise funds to support projects like yours. We may have volunteers available to help you take great photos.
Optional: We also love to have you send us news and photos as your program is happening – not only at the end of the project. We share this news on Facebook, Instagram, and on our blog.
What questions will the Grants Review Committee consider to decide on grants?
The committee will use this rubric to evaluate each application. Please use the rubric and questions below to assist you while writing the grant application.
- Is this a realistic project?
- How well has the community handled grants in the past?
- Do the community members get along and work together?
- Do the people managing this project have the skills to help make it happen?
