Bat Mitzvah Sponsorship for Girls in Uganda
Background
The Abayudaya people are a Jewish community living in Uganda. A program was recently launched to support Bat Mitzvahs for girls in this community for just $200 per girl.
For my mitzvah project, I’m partnering with Kulanu, an organization that helps support isolated and emerging Jewish communities around the world. My goal is to raise funds to sponsor Bat Mitzvahs for girls in Uganda.
I’ve been looking forward to my own Bat Mitzvah for a long time, and I believe that all girls should have the same opportunity to become a Jewish adult.
Why It Matters
- These girls are Jewish just like us—celebrating Shabbat, attending services, and keeping Jewish traditions.
- A Bat Mitzvah is a major milestone that marks the transition into Jewish adulthood and greater community involvement.
- Each $200 donation provides tutoring, a nice outfit, and a small celebration with family and community.
- These girls deserve the same opportunities that we have to grow, learn, and celebrate their faith.
My Goals
- Raise awareness in the Beth Emet and broader Jewish community.
- Raise $2,000 to sponsor 10 girls in celebrating their Bat Mitzvahs.
