{"id":917,"date":"2013-09-12T14:29:23","date_gmt":"2013-09-12T18:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kulanuarchive.kulanu.org\/?p=917"},"modified":"2019-04-08T10:46:02","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T14:46:02","slug":"harare-lemba-synagogue-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kulanu.org\/archive\/harare-lemba-synagogue-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Harare Lemba Synagogue Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are asking for your help with one of the most important undertakings in our organizational history \u2013 the ingathering of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kulanu.org\/archive\/lemba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" shape=\"rect\">Lemba Jews of Zimbabwe<\/a>. A\u00a0young Lemba leader,\u00a0Modreck Maeresera, is heading the development of\u00a0the first\u00a0synagogue and community center for Lemba Jews residing in\u00a0Harare,\u00a0the capital of Zimbabwe. In June,\u00a0Modreck, with the assistance of Kulanu, rented a large house in central Harare to be used as a synagogue and guest house.\u00a0The building and grounds will house the\u00a0synagogue,\u00a0a cyber and religious education center, library, guest rooms with\u00a0a kosher kitchen, chicken coops, and community garden.\u00a0Since opening three months ago, the Harare Lemba Synagogue offers Sabbath services every\u00a0Friday\u00a0evening and Saturday morning. On average 30 people attend the services with anticipation for substantial growth in the coming years. The synagogue is evolving into a center for families and individuals to stay throughout Shabbat for discussions on the weekly Torah portion, Jewish learning opportunities, and socializing. Its presence has ignited the excitement of Lemba young people throughout the city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will you help us to identify foundations and potential corporate and individual donors who might help support this project?\u00a0<\/strong>We would be very grateful if you could share recommendations of people and foundations we can contact.
