It\u2019s also time to consider your financial support for the year ahead as we continue to welcome and help isolated and emerging Jewish communities around the world. Thank you!<\/p>\n<p>This has been a great year for Kulanu, thanks to supporters like you. We\u2019ve expanded our reach, establishing relationships with \u201cnew\u201d Jewish communities in Brazil, Colombia, Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Madagascar. And we continue to build Jewish knowledge, leadership, practice, and community across the globe. I am delighted to share with you some of our highlights from 2014 below &#8211; and soon our 2014 annual report will be published on our website, providing a more in-depth review of all we\u2019ve done this year.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy reflecting on the past year as much as I have. Thank you so much\u00a0for being part of \u201call of us\u201d!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Torahs donated by Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun in Manhattan\u2019s Upper East Side were distributed to communities in Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, and Nigeria.<\/li>\n<li>Kulanu gave five \u201cmini-grants\u201d to needy Jewish communities in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Guatemala to purchase prayer books and study guides and to equip a Hebrew School classroom for children.<\/li>\n<li>Kulanu volunteers traveled to Cameroon, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and India to meet members of \u201cnew\u201d communities, to teach, and to bring donated books, Judaica items, cameras, and computers.<\/li>\n<li>The Kulanu-Abayudaya 2014 Women\u2019s Speaking Tour was a great success, as Shoshanna Nambi, a young activist from the Abayudaya community in Uganda, made appearances in a dozen cities across the United States and Canada and raised awareness about her inspiring community, and funds for the Abayudaya elementary and high schools.<\/li>\n<li>Students from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Guatemala traveled outside their communities to take advantage of Jewish learning and leadership development opportunities at Rabbi Shlomo Riskin\u2019s yeshiva in Israel, Rabbi Gershom Sizomu\u2019s yeshiva in Uganda, and Brandeis Collegiate Institute near Los Angeles.<\/li>\n<li>Kulanu arranged a beit din for conversions in Nicaragua and sent bus fare for a beit din in Uganda for members of the Kusuku Jewish community of Kenya.<\/li>\n<li>In Uganda, Kulanu donations paid for running our two schools, including the schools\u2019 breakfast and lunch program, a new classroom block, a face-lift for the high school buildings, beds, mattresses, and mosquito nets for the student dorms, new latrines, and a better drainage system, as well as ninety-three goats for impoverished Abayudaya women, repairs of two wells in Namutumba, and windows and a floor for the Namutumba synagogue.<\/li>\n<li>The Harare Lemba Synagogue, which Kulanu helped to establish in Zimbabwe last year, continues to grow and thrive, assisted by excellent \u201coverseas\u201d volunteers who worked alongside the Lemba community and taught various subjects for seven months this past year. Construction continues on the synagogue in the countryside with labor by the community.<\/li>\n<li>We continue to utilize the Internet to further our mission, funding Internet access to connect isolated communities with social networking and online learning, and sharing photos and videos from community members, board members, coordinators, and volunteers with the world (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/kulanuvideo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.youtube.com\/kulanuvideo<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kulanu.phanfare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.kulanu.phanfare.com<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2026and so much more!
