\"\"The Coronavirus pandemic has put much of the world on hold this spring and summer but Kulanu has continued to support isolated, returning, and emerging Jewish communities around the globe through our online efforts.\u00a0 \u00a0Many thanks to Genie Milgrom, Kulanu\u2019s Anousim Coordinator, who planned and executed an extensive\u00a0\u00a0Jewish educational program with various communities during the lockdown via Zoom and other webinars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Genie has been conducting courses on Kashrut, Candles for Shabbat and Festivities, and will soon start on Cooking for the Sabbath. Her group of women and men is close to 40 people from communities that are isolated in Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Costa Rica and even isolated within the United States.\u00a0 In addition, she has also coordinated a class for children on Jewish History on Sunday mornings.\u00a0\u00a0Given the varied degrees of observance, there is no religion involved, but the Biblical stories and history of the Jewish people are shared.<\/p>\n

Michel Milgrom, Genie\u2019s husband, is teaching a course in French on Kashrut to just under 20 participants.\u00a0 The participants are from around the world, including Paris, Congo and Senegal. Weekly topics for the Kashrut course include Shabbat candles, cooking on Shabbat, and other useful information.\u00a0 Click here to watch Michael in action! Professor Rifka Cook, from Chicago,\u00a0\u00a0is teaching\u00a0\u00a0Hebrew to native Spanish speakers twice a week with a group of 60 adults.\u00a0 There is a weekly lesson class and then a conversation format class so the group can practice their new skills.<\/p>\n

Each of these courses continue to grow as more people join to learn together.\u00a0 The students are excited to be able to continue their Jewish education and learn new skills during these challenging times.<\/p>\n
